Polish citizenship means an EU passport, full rights (including voting) and open-ended security of stay. Poland allows dual citizenship, so you usually don't have to give up your current one. There are several routes to citizenship – Investya handles these cases across Poland.
Routes to citizenship
| Route | What it involves |
|---|---|
| Grant by the President | A discretionary decision by the President, with no fixed conditions and no appeal |
| Recognition as a citizen | A procedure for people meeting statutory conditions; the decision is issued by the voivode |
| Descent / restoration | For people with Polish ancestors or who lost their citizenship |
| Through marriage | For spouses of Polish citizens – via recognition, once conditions are met |
Requirements (recognition as a citizen)
For recognition, what matters includes: a sufficiently long, uninterrupted period of residence on permanent residence or EU long-term resident status, a stable and regular source of income, legal title to accommodation, and knowledge of Polish (a B1-level certificate or a certificate of completing a Polish-language school).
Required documents
The application, a CV, civil-status records, proof of language knowledge, documents on income and accommodation, proof of residence and proof of payment. Foreign documents require sworn translation.
Costs
| Route | Fee |
|---|---|
| Recognition as a Polish citizen | 219 PLN (stamp duty) |
| Grant of citizenship by the President | no fee |
On top of that come sworn translations of documents.
How long does it take?
Recognition as a citizen is an administrative procedure – usually a few months. A presidential grant has no statutory deadline and can take longer.
